The Great One
"The Great One." Denali, called The Great One, stands at an impressive 20,310 feet (6,190m) above sea level, the tallest peak in North America, and is arguably considered the tallest mountain in the world from land base to peak, measuring approximately 18,000 feet (5,486m). "The Mountain," as it is locally called, is only seen one day in three on average, and creates its own weather patterns. Often there are blue skies all around, yet a shroud of clouds obscures The Mountain from view. This viewpoint is captured about 40 miles from the peak, one of the closest viewpoints accessible via the public road system.
