Spring view of downtown Salt Lake City from the perspective at Ensign Peak. The Salt Lake Valley is nestled between geographical features that literally box in Salt Lake County: Oquirrh Mountains (west), Point of the Mountain (south), Wasatch Front (east), and the Great Salt Lake (north). Features in this shot are the Utah State Capitol (foreground), the Salt Lake Temple, and the two prominent north/south streets, State Street and Main Street.
The hike up to Ensign Peak is short, only a half mile with a 400-foot vertical climb. Upon reaching the summit, I was surprised by the small crowd gathered: several families and a few couples. The groups were awaiting sunset. I took a few shots of downtown, then the sun disappeared all too fast, so made my way back down.
